The Medway Family Concert is an annual musical tradition, hosted by the Southeastern Massachusetts Community Concert Band, also known as the SMCCB, at Medway’s High School Auditorium on December 14 at 2 pm.
The SMCCB is a concert band welcoming all ages and all levels in music, although they recommend participants having at least a high school level or better. The SMCCB encourages everyone, regardless of economic status, to come and enjoy the FREE, festive concert; no tickets are required.
“The Southeastern Massachusetts Community Concert Band is a 35-piece band based in Medway that has been operating continuously since 1976,” said the MFPA, Medway Friends of Performing Arts, which was the sponsor of this event. “The members come from many surrounding towns, coming from as far away as Shrewsbury, Marlboro, Mansfield, and Woonsocket. They are volunteer musicians led by a professional conductor.” Organizers hoped to create an environment highlighting local talent and strengthening town connections.
The band rehearses and performs year-round, rehearsing on Monday evenings from 7:30-9:00 p.m. at the Community Church, Medway, MA. Families all across Massachusetts are welcome.
Anticipation for the concert had been high throughout the community. Parents, teachers, and students had spent weeks preparing, particularly those involved in Medway’s Friends of Performing Arts.
This event gathered families from across the community, giving people a chance to come together through music and seasonal celebrations. Event organizers arranged a variety of family-oriented activities, including light refreshments, intending to make the night engaging for children and parents alike.
Despite the snow and difficult travel, there was a decent turnout, and if anything, the snow lent the concert a festive aura. Overall, the concert was a success, with family and friends from all over the county gathered for this once-in-a-year tradition. After the concert, children of all ages enjoyed refreshments, giving a true sense of community.
