On Wednesday, January 28th, Medway High School had its first multi-language induction ceremony. Three language honors societies participated: the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, the Société Honoraire de Français, and the NJCL Latin Honor Society. Two of these societies, the French and Latin societies, were introduced to Medway High School students for the first time this year.
The ceremony started with the induction of Latin-learning students, then transitioned to French-learning students, and finally went to Spanish-learning students. Each specific induction began with the corresponding Club Advisors announcing the purpose of their Honors Society. Afterwards, the officers would give speeches or messages on how their respective language is important and fosters their growth. To conclude each of the inductions, students recited a pledge, officially inducting them to their honors societies.
With the addition of the new chapters, the language environment within the school became more diverse. Previously, with only the Spanish version existing in the school, only Spanish students were formally recognized for their achievements through an honors society, but now, students studying French and Latin receive the same recognition for their achievements. This ceremony not only celebrated student accomplishments but also reinforced Medway’s commitment to fostering a broader appreciation for language learning.
