Health and wellness trends are always evolving. What is popular one week might be disregarded the next. But one thing that has stayed prevalent in the world of diet and gym culture is cottage cheese. A few years ago most people would only think to use cottage cheese as something to dip crackers in but now it is a staple to every gym rat and athletes diet. Part of this can be attributed to “Gymtok”, the algorithm of Tiktok that includes everything health and fitness. In the midst of cottage cheese popularity people are mixing it into scrambled eggs, putting it on toast, and even as a substitute for more calorically dense options like cream cheese.
While many people praise cottage cheese for its high protein and multiple uses, others are tired of seeing all of the cottage cheese recipes all over Tiktok. While it can be a great way to add protein to a meal, some argue making things like cottage desserts cookies is taking it too far. So, we decided to ask a few students about their thoughts.
- Giada, a frequent gym-goer who prioritizes healthy eating said “I think it’s an acquired taste but definitely a great source of healthy, non processed protein”. She also recommends blending it up to add to pasta, eggs, sauces, and as a substitute for sour cream.
- Ally, also a frequent gym goer who runs track and field has an opposing opinion. Ally says “its a big texture thing for me and is too clumpy and cheesy for me even when its blended”.
- For me personally, I think cottage cheese is a great protein-packed addition to savory foods, but I am not a fan of it with sweet foods. I love mixing it into scrambled eggs to make them more fluffy and light as well as on a bagel with spicy honey and everything seasoning.
