The Red Sox took game one of the American League wild-card series against the Yankees in the Bronx on September 30th. Garrett Crochet was on the mound, only allowing one run for 7.1 innings. Max Freed, the Yankees pitcher, allowed 7.2 scoreless innings, but when the Yankee reliever pitchers came in, it all went downhill for them from there.
The Red Sox got two runs in the top of the 7th to make the score 2-1. It stayed that way until the 9th inning. In the 9th, Trevor Story hit a single and then stole second base. Alex Bregman hit him home with a double, making it 3-1 going into the bottom of the 9th. That’s when all the drama started to happen. Chapman came in to close the game, but he allowed two hits on five pitches, making the bases loaded with zero outs. Chapman then climbed out of that hole, not allowing a single run in the bottom of the ninth inning, finishing the game three to one, and the Red Sox clinched the first game of the wild-card.
The Red Sox will face the Yankees again tonight at 6.08pm EST in the Bronx.
