The Medway High School football team has struggled to find a head coach that fits their needs; in the last three years they’ve had four different head coaches. Following last season, Medway hired new Football Head Coach, Edward Rigney. Rigney spent his last five seasons with the Uxbridge football team as an assistant coach where they had found great success these past years, even winning the 2023 Division 7 state championship. He has brought along with him a new coaching staff to join one returning coach from the 2023 season. Rigney has a phrase on the back of his players shirts that reads, “C.W.I.T” which stands for Commitment, Work Ethic, Intelligence, and Team Attitude. He believes that these are a core part of the game of football and really emphasizes these values.
Rigney and his new coaching staff seem to have done the trick, as this past Friday night, Medway traveled down to Dighton Rehoboth High School where they won their season opener. Medway found great success in the air as Senior Captain Garrett O’Mara threw for 200+ yards. He found Junior Wide Receiver, Jacob White, down field twice, both for 50+ yard touchdown passes. With a field goal tacked on by Junior, Logan Keaney, as time expired in the first half, Medway was up 17-14. In the second half O’Mara found Junior Wide Receiver, Aidan Tkowski down the sideline for another huge touchdown, giving Medway a 10-point lead. Dighton Rehoboth came back with a touchdown to make it close, but Medway held on for their first victory of the season, 24-20, to start Rigney’s record 1-0.
