Hurricane Helene, a category 4 storm made landfall late Thursday, September 26th, in Florida’s Big Bend region. Helene has induced substantial damage and chaos within the Southeast. Starting its mass destruction off the coast of Florida, it has been the cause of many power outages as well as fallen trees, with more than 90 people across 5 states confirmed to be dead as a result of the hurricane. As it moved further inland and up North, Hurricane Helene became a tropical storm. Despite this, its effects on the Carolinas and Georgia are lamentable, consisting of flooding and power outages. Many roads have also been closed. To help those affected, there are many organizations that one can consider donating money to to aid with relief efforts. For example, the American Red Cross and Salvation Army are both organizations that provide assistance and support for survivors and evacuees. Another organization is Americare. One of their focuses is the facilitation of assistance for communities recovering from disasters, and they have set up a donation page for Hurricane Helene. With outside help, communities who have been impacted by Hurricane Helene face a better chance of recovering, and will forever be grateful.
