Just 2 years ago, the girls tennis team ended the 2023 season with just 1 win, against Millis. In the next 2 seasons, we had quite the turn around. Ending the season 8-10 in 2024, the team made it into the playoffs for the first time in a while, and lost to Old Rochester Regional. Returning in 2025 with almost the same lineup, the team had a goal of making it past the first round. We started this years season off with a tough loss against a strong Medfield team, but later turning the week around by clean sweeping both Norwood and Sutton. Even with some of the tough losses against strong teams like Dover-Sherborn, we were able to learn from it, and use it to help us in our later matches. In our 2023 season, some of our wins were a very close 3-2. This year, we were able to win against some of the same teams, but by 5-0 this time. In our whole season this year we were able to get 5 clean sweeps. One of our biggest accomplishments was winning both matches against TVL rival Millis whom we have struggled with in prior seasons. In early May, we were able to clinch a 3-2 win against Medfield, one of the strongest TVL small teams, which was a huge accomplishment for us. When the final brackets came out just ahead of playoffs, we were ranked 15, just making the cut for a home playoff match. We faced Watertown in the round of 32, coming out with a strong 4-1 win. We had reached the goal we set at the beginning of the season: making it past the first round. Not only did we reach out goal but this was the first time Medway Girls Tennis had made it past the round of 32 in the 7 years our current AD Jeff Parcells has been at Medway, possibly longer than that. Next, we would play Saint John Paul II, the second seed in D3. We knew it would be a tough match, but we had also came a long way, so we were ready to give it our all. On Sunday June 1st, we headed down to Yarmouth for our round of 16. Towards the end we were down 1-3, with a win at second doubles, awaiting second singles to finish. While we lost the match, we were extremely proud of coming up just 1 match short against the #2 seed. Our second doubles (Leah Lieberman/Madeleine Greenfield) had an impressive 2 set match, one of their best season performances. Our second singles (Anna Freeman) had an amazing 3 set match ending with a tiebreaker in the third set. Our season came to an end but we came off the court knowing we may have had one of the best seasons Medway Girls Tennis has ever had with a 11-7 record.

A few Q & A’s with our junior captains Katie & Anna:
Q: What was your favorite win this season, and why?
A: I think my favorite win was when our team beat Medfield. The first time we played them I was able to win my match, but we lost as a team. Seeing the team win against one of the strongest TVL teams was a great and rare experience (Katie).
Q: What was your favorite memory this season?
A: My favorite memory this season was going out to ice cream at Bubbling Brooke, and Sophie got Leah out of senior soak!! (Anna).
A: My favorite memory was probably watching Anna (our second singles) win her match against Saint John Paul II. I could tell it was a really difficult match for both players and seeing Anna come out with a win against a player of the second seeded team was really great (Katie).
Q: What was a difficult match that you were able to make a comeback in, and how were you able to turn things around?
A: Probably one of the first matches we had against Sutton. I had one the first set, lost the second, and had to finish on a tiebreaker. It was a high stress match but I was able to focus and play smarter which allowed me to win the match. Even though it was a stressful match I think it made me better equipped for difficult matches that I had later in the season (Katie).
A: The most difficult match I played was our last match against St. John Paul II in the Sweet 16. I won the first set, lost in a tiebreaker in the second set, and won in another tiebreaker in the third set. This match was very draining, but I was able to stay calm, and mentally focus in order to get the win. Winning this match meant a lot to me because although I was clearly the less experienced player, I was able play the way I know how, and overcome the high tensions the match brought (Anna).
