In the fall of 2023, the Medway Soccer teams had their first ‘Kick Out Cancer’ fundraiser games after current senior captain Kevin McMahon was inspired to start the tradition. Like Medway Volleyball’s ‘Dig Pink’, this was a great way to get the community together and raise charity and awareness for a great cause. This year, from donations, raffle tickets, and t-shirt sales, the soccer teams made over $16,000 for Dana Farber and the Jimmy Fund. We hope to see this great tradition continue in Medway for years to come.

“Last year the soccer program participated in the ‘Kick out Cancer’ fundraiser to support Dana Farber and the Jimmy Fund. It was an amazing event that raised about $4,500. I organized ‘Kick out Cancer’ because four years ago I lost my grandmother due to lung cancer. Although this experience was very sad for both me and my family, I believed the best thing to do would be to organize a fundraiser to honor her life. Last year seeing the turnout for both the game and the donations was heartwarming for me. I know many people have had similar experiences so this fundraiser could be about more than my grandmother. This year we decided to organize the fundraiser again due to the previous year’s great support. We decided to change some things up including making sure every player for both programs had their own fundraiser page where people could donate to their individual goals which all collected into the main ‘Kick out Cancer’ fundraising page. In total, we sold over 100 t-shirts, 150 raffle tickets, and we made over $16,000 in donations. Just seeing how the community has come together both years for the same event was really great. I loved seeing the togetherness of both programs, families, and supporters.”
